Programme Covers – 7th to 9th March 2020

Although it already seems like an age ago, the last round of Premier League games took place just over two weeks ago. Here we have the programme covers from that round of games, played over the weekend from Saturday 7th March to Monday 9th March.

The covers for this round of games saw more of the excellent designs we’ve come to expect from the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers. The subject of Louise Cobbold’s cover artwork for Wolves’ home match against Brighton & Hove Albion was young wing-back Ruben Vinagre. Burnley’s programme for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur sported their familiar shirt design cover, which has caught the eye on a regular basis this season, while Chelsea’s issue for the visit of Everton featured a high-quality image of Ross Barkley and the promising Billy Gilmour in action during the Blues’ FA Cup 5th round victory over Liverpool.

Of the clubs that we recognised in our recent Programme of the Season Awards, only Silver Award winners Sheffield United had a home fixture in this round of games. The cover for their match against Norwich City featured midfielder Ben Osborn and the Canaries’ Max Aarons.

When the decision was taken to suspend all football as a result of the Covid-19 virus, the Premier League games due to take place on 14th and 15th March were postponed at short notice. It seems that copies of the Norwich City v Southampton programme were sent to subscribers prior to the announcement and these have fetched some eye-watering sums on eBay, with the first copy selling for £205! The cover of this issue is shown below, together with the cover that would have been used for the Aston Villa v Chelsea fixture. Let us know if you have seen any of the other Premier League programmes for the postponed round of games!
